Women have been part of real estate since the industry’s inception in 1794. The first woman to join as a real estate agent since the establishment of NAR back in 1910 was Corrine Simpson and women have come a long way since. According to NAR’s 2021 member profile, 65% of all real estate agents are women. And guess who is a typical realtor in the US? A 54- year-old woman who has attended college and is a homemaker.
Women have overcome strenuous challenges, from pay inequality to the proverbial glass ceiling to make a mark in the professional world. This Women’s Day 2022, Styldod celebrates women who have made their mark in the real estate industry. We have interviewed and in some cases collated the life stories of #womeninrealestate to create infographics that can serve as inspiration for other real estate professionals. Here’s the first story as promised, the inspiring entrepreneurial journey of our very own Co-Founder, Shital Gohil.
We asked some questions to our dear co-founder Shital Gohil to know how she explored new opportunities and took risks to stake her claim as an entrepreneur. Styldod draws immense inspiration from her and she’s the design backbone of our company so it’s only natural we wanted to serve up her story to inspire other women.
Shital’s desire to democratize design took birth much before Styldod. During her time running an interior design practice, she understood the importance of 3D representations which helped better communicate designs to clients.
“Five years ago I imagined a system where a hundred designers could create designs using software, out of a central facility, and have clients communicate on calls - a new way of scaling a design practice where designers could focus on being creative and customers could have an inexpensive solution because of the low-touch model."
But before she deep dived into the idea, she went on to do a Masters in automotive design and followed it up with a long stint in a prestigious firm to gather experience.
Her tryst with Styldod began when her paths crossed some of Styldod’s founding team who were looking for someone to lead design. After six months as an employee, she was offered the option to be a full-time co-founder in September 2015 with a considerable stake in the company.
“I was excited to join my co-founders to achieve our vision of automated, algorithmic design generation. One of the key challenges was to re-envision design principles from a very different frame - one that lends itself to algorithmization. Being a designer myself, it was difficult at first to accept that the creative-cognitive process of designing can be automated. However, as I learned more of the tenets of algorithms and programming, and my co-founders immersed in design, we were able to connect the dots.”
Today, Shital leads the design and delivery operations for Styldod, a function that is at the crux of our business.
When asked for advice and thoughts she’d like to share with other women in the real estate industry, here’s what Shital had to say:
“ Life is tough; you keep at it; remember you have tremendous strength to fulfill your goals. You are enough; it is you who you have been looking for all the while. Learn to let go, and everything will follow your way. Pay attention to the feelings; it is far more important than the selling price of the house. You are in the business of selling feelings and buying dreams.”

Neha is a Daily Operations Head at Styldod, who diligently strode through a fast-paced career. She loves designing and organizing things to keep me productive and positive throughout the day. She says, “My supportive team always has my back “and she considers Styldod her second home. She recently discovered her entrepreneurial bug and founded her silver jewelry brand. Being a sucker for homemade food, she loves cooking.
PREKSHA BALAJI
Preksha handles design, training, and management in the company, ensuring quality delivery of services to clients. She says, “A good cup of tea, sunshine creates a refreshing ambiance in my workspace”. A quote she goes by is, “It’s our choices that define us, far more than our abilities”. She cherishes her supportive peers who haven’t met each other yet due to the pandemic. An ace performer in college, she won a sponsored trip to Dubai, for being in the top 1%. Her favorite hobby is unwinding through reading books and looking at things from a new perspective.

Despite facing several challenges, women are at the forefront of this industry. They are moving out of their homes, taking risks, and striving towards an exciting career path. Sure, women have to wear many hats, but with support and encouragement, they can be truly unstoppable.
